Dr Neus Moran Receives the Agustí Duran i Sanpere Prize for Essay, Humanities and the History of Barcelona 2025
The 2025 Barcelona City Awards recognise excellence in the fields of culture, science and education, with distinctions awarded across 19 categories.
The jury—composed of Mireia Capdevila (chair), Joan Burdeus, Jaume Claret, Joan Esculies and Mar Griera—unanimously agreed to award the 2025 Agustí Duran i Sanpere Barcelona City Prize for Essay, Humanities, and the History of Barcelona to L’espoli general: La requisa franquista del patrimoni del moviment associatiu i obrer dels territoris de parla catalana (1939–1978) (The General Plunder: The Francoist Seizure of the Heritage of the Associational and Labour Movement in the Catalan-speaking Territories, 1939–1978), published by L’Avenç, by Dr Neus Moran Gimeno, researcher at the Josep Termes Circle.
At a time when the associational, cultural, and linguistic fabric of the Catalan Countries is once again under threat, the jury highlighted the book’s clear exposition of the mechanisms and consequences of Francoist repression. The jury also emphasised the importance of rigorous historical research in ensuring that public debate rests on solid foundations and an informed understanding of historical precedents.
